The Center for Research in Genomics Applied to Climate Change, based at the University of Campinas (UNICAMP), was formally constituted on December 13, 2017. It is the result of a partnership between FAPESP, EMBRAPA, and the university, and its mission is to generate biotechnological advances that can make plants more resistant to drought and heat, as well as to transfer such technologies to the productive sector. “The total contracted value of the center is R$102.8 million, of which R$25.2 million is from FAPESP; R$32.9 million is from EMBRAPA; and R$44.7 million is from UNICAMP, to be allocated to salaries, research infrastructure, etcetera,” Carlos Henrique de Brito Cruz, FAPESP scientific director, told Agência FAPESP. The new institution is the sixth Engineering Research Center/Applied Research Center supported by FAPESP in partnership with businesses as part of the Partnership for Technological Innovation (PITE) program.
