The $500,000 prize was awarded in Abu Dhabi, capital of the United Arab Emirates (UAE). This is the fifth annual prize awarded by the foundation, which was created by the son of Sheik Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, one of the founders of the UAE. Goldemberg said that in past years, the prize winners were involved in photovoltaic solar energy, wind power or energy saving. \u201cThis is the first time that they gave the award to someone whose main work is in bioenergy,\u201d physicist told <i>Ag\u00eancia FAPESP<\/i>.
