The prize is awarded by the National Council for Scientific and Technological Development (CNPq), in partnership with the Conrado Wessel Foundation and the Brazilian Navy, and seeks to recognize the work of Brazilian researchers in advancing science, technology and innovation in Brazil. \u201cI was surprised and pleased to receive news of the award,\u201d said Zanotto, in an interview with Portal do CNPq. For more than three decades he has been coordinating the UFSCar Vitreous Materials Laboratory (LaMaV), and is responsible for a number of contributions to basic and applied research relating to, for example, glass nucleation and crystallization (see Pesquisa FAPESP No. 178).
