The collaboration focuses on studies to improve the diagnosis and treatment of sickle cell anemia and other blood disorders. Belinda Sim\u00f5es, professor at the USP Ribeir\u00e3o Preto School of Medicine and one of the coordinators of the consortium, told <em>Ag\u00eancia FAPESP<\/em> that the consortium seeks to promote the exchange of researchers and facilitate obtaining financing for research. Sickle cell anemia is caused by a genetic disorder and affects 50,000 Brazilians.
