Organized by FAPESP, the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, UNC Charlotte, North Carolina State University and the Brazil Institute of the Woodrow Wilson International Center for Scholars, the event brought together researchers from fields such as health sciences, biodiversity and bioenergy to discuss research findings and opportunities for new partnerships. \u201cWe\u2019re going to gather together the information collected here today about possibilities for collaboration, distribute it among the leaders from UNC-Charlotte and work on establishing joint proposals,\u201d said Daniel Janies, professor in the Department of Bioinformatics and Genomics at UNC Charlotte, who was one of the organizers of the first edition of the symposium held in Washington, DC in 2011 while he was a professor at Ohio State University. FAPESP Scientific Director Carlos Henrique de Brito Cruz highlighted the agreements signed by the Foundation with funding agencies, research institutes, companies and U.S. universities such as North Carolina State University. According to the FAPESP News Agency, Brito Cruz indicated that \u201cthe number of articles published in co-authorship with researchers from the states of S\u00e3o Paulo and North Carolina has increased since 2000, with most in the field of health.
