Jos\u00e9 Le\u00f4ncio de Almeida Silva, agronomy major at the Federal Rural University of the Semiarid Region (Ufersa), took the prize in the Undergraduate Student category for his research on adding salt water as an alternative in irrigation and forage production in Northeast Brazil. Edvan Pereira, of Ernestina Pereira Maia State School, in Moju, Par\u00e1 State, was awarded the prize in the High School Student category for his paper on the use of a\u00e7a\u00ed seeds to filter drinking water. The honoree in Scientific Merit was Eugenio Foresti, a professor at the University of S\u00e3o Paulo (USP), who has devoted over 40 years of his career to developing technologies that involve the use of water resources. For the second year in a row, USP took the Institutional Merit prize in recognition of its contribution to scientific training in Brazil.
