Kluge Award. The distinction, which includes the amount of US$ 1 million, will be presented on July 10 in Washington. The Kluge Award recognizes\u00a0 scholars of the humanities and social sciences. First released in 2003, it has not been awarded regularly and was last granted last in 2008. The seven previous winners include philosophers Paul Ricoeur and Leszek Kolakowski, as well as historians John Hope Franklin and Yu Ying-shih. &#8220;His academic analysis of government social structures, economics and race relations in Brazil established the intellectual basis for his leadership as president at the time of Brazil&#8217;s transformation from a military dictatorship with high inflation into a vivid and more inclusive democracy with strong economic growth,\u201d stated the Library of Congress communiqu\u00e9. The former president is the author or coauthor of more than 23 academic books and 116 scientific articles. &#8220;Cardoso became known for the innovative analysis he developed with Enzo Faletto, a Chilean scholar, in the debate of the best solutions for development,\u201d the communiqu\u00e9 continues, referring to the book <em>Dependency and Development in Latin America<\/em>, from 1969.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"Fernando Henrique Cardoso will receive John W.
