The recommendation is not a new one, but it gained a scientific hue in July, at a neurology congress in Paris (New Scientist, July 17).\u00a0 Researcher V\u00e9ronique Dubost, from the University Hospital of Saint-Etienne, in France, said that studies carried out by her and her team prove that people walk more slowly and take shorter steps when they are chatting or thinking about the tasks they have to do.
