Correia earned a degree in civil engineering from the University of Campinas (Unicamp), a master\u2019s from the ITA and a doctorate from the University of Calgary in Canada. He was dean of extension and cooperation of the Institute, founded in 1950, which currently has 180 professors, 700 undergraduate students and 1,700 graduate students. One of Correia\u2019s goals is to upgrade engineering studies and strengthen graduate studies and undergraduate research. Replacing the cadre of professors is one of the goals for the coming years now that many have retired. \u201cITA is a driver of technological development in Brazil. The institution has a great impact on society,\u201d Correia says on the institute\u2019s website.
