The meetings took place at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor and at Ohio State University in Columbus. FAPESP has cooperation agreements with both institutions. \u201cThese two universities stand out because they are interested in reinforcing long-term partnerships in all fields of knowledge,\u201d according to Marcelo Knobel, professor at the Institute of Physics of the University of Campinas (Unicamp) and deputy coordinator of research collaboration at FAPESP.\u00a0 Joseph Kolars, professor at the University of Michigan Medical School, pointed out the impact the partnerships have on the fields of health and medicine: \u201cOne example is the prevalence of adrenal cancer in Brazil, which has one of the highest rates in the world, while the disease is rare in the United States. Regardless, we have experience with it, and thanks to our collaboration with the Brazilians, we have made progress in treating this disease.\u201d Carlos Henrique de Brito Cruz, scientific director of FAPESP, believes that the rapprochement has achieved good results in the last few years since FAPESP signed a cooperation agreement with Ohio State University in 2013.\u00a0\u201cResearchers from S\u00e3o Paulo State have produced many articles in recent years in collaboration with colleagues from Ohio.
