{"id":224318,"date":"2008-11-01T15:41:58","date_gmt":"2008-11-01T17:41:58","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/revistapesquisa.fapesp.br\/en\/?p=224318"},"modified":"2016-09-15T15:44:22","modified_gmt":"2016-09-15T18:44:22","slug":"the-controversy-over-transgenics","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/revistapesquisa.fapesp.br\/en\/the-controversy-over-transgenics\/","title":{"rendered":"The controversy over transgenics"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>In the current context of the introduction of transgenics into the Brazilian food chain researchers Ariadne Chlo\u00eb Furnival and S\u00f4nia Maria Pinheiro, from the Federal University of S\u00e3o Carlos, have carried out a study entitled \u201cThe public perception of the information about the potential risks of transgenics in the food chain\u201d. The research used the qualitative method of focus groups for collecting the interpretations of the consumer public with regard to the information available about this biotechnological innovation. Use of this method allowed results to be generated that revealed the relationships constructed by those taking part in the survey between this type of biotechnology, environmental changes and the production of food in general.
