UNU conducts collaborative studies and teaches graduate courses. UNU consists of 11 research institutes and a myriad of programs. United Nations Secretary General Ban Ki-moon, and Irina Bokova, Director General of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), announced the names of Brito Cruz and 11 other new members. Some of the other appointees include: Vice Chancellor of the University of Ghana, Ernest Aryeetey; Director of the Institute for Peace Science at the University of Hiroshima, Tsuneo Nishida; Director of the China Institute for S&amp;T Policy, Lan Xue; and Executive Director of the Arab Reform Initiative, Bassma Kodmani.
