The honor is bestowed by the National Council for Scientific and Technological Development (CNPq) in partnership with the Conrado Wessel Foundation and the Brazilian Navy. Goldenberg is director of the Carlos Chagas Institute, part of the Oswaldo Cruz Foundation (Fiocruz) in Paran\u00e1, and member of the Brazilian Academy of Sciences (ABC). His specialty is parasitology, particularly studies on the differentiation of the protozoan <em>Trypanosoma cruzi<\/em>, the culprit behind Chagas disease. Goldenberg holds bachelor\u2019s and master\u2019s degrees from the University of Bras\u00edlia (UnB) and a PhD from Paris Diderot University.
