Durigan was dean of S\u00e3o Paulo State University (Unesp) from January 2013 to January 2017.\u00a0Also at Unesp, he served as acting dean while he was vice dean from January 2011 to January 2013, vice dean from January 2009 to January 2011 and dean of administration from January 2005 to January 2009. In 1997 he became a full professor in the Phytosanitary Department of Unesp\u2019s School of Agricultural and Veterinary Sciences (FCAV), in the city of Jaboticabal. Durigan completed his bachelor\u2019s degree in agronomy from the same school in 1975, and he received his master\u2019s degree in plant production in 1978. He completed his PhD work in soil and plant nutrition at the Luiz de Queiroz College of Agriculture at the University of S\u00e3o Paulo (ESALQ-USP) in 1983. He specialized in the study of weeds. He was president of the Brazilian Weed Science Society from 2003 to 2005 and vice president of the Latin America Weed Association from 2001 to 2003.
