With no simple answer, the matter was treated in the <a href=\"http:\/\/revistapesquisa.fapesp.br\/en\/2014\/12\/26\/rain-dance\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">cover story of the December 2014 issue<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>We asked Antonio Donato Nobre, a researcher from the National Institute for Space Research (INPE), about the Amazon&#8217;s importance on the formation of flying rivers which carry water to faraway areas of Brazil and neighboring countries. What he said is central to engineer Monica Porto&#8217;s, from the USP Polytechnic School, discussion on the importance of rain to feed S\u00e3o Paulo water sources.
