She is the first woman to hold the position since the publication was launched in 1869, and will replace physicist Philip Campbell, who from July 1 will be editor in chief of the Springer Nature group. Magdalena is currently editor in chief of the journal <em>Nature Communications<\/em> and has worked at the group for more than 15 years. In a statement, she said that her mandate is to continue <em>Nature&#8217;s<\/em> leadership in ensuring the publication of reproducible research. She also stressed the importance of open science, which involves free access to information and the collaborative construction of knowledge.
