There has been a 72% increase since 2000, when 3,178 patents were filed. From 2015 to 2017, the growth was 18%.<\/p>\n<\/div><a name=\"#dados1_en\"><\/a><iframe id=\"dados1_en\" style=\"overflow: hidden; width: 100%; height: calc(100vh - 200px)\" data-ratio_760=\"0.5\" data-ratio_1190=\"5.5\" class=\"resizable\" data-ratio=\"2.167\" src=\"https:\/\/revistapesquisa.fapesp.br\/wp-content\/revista_embeds\/dados1_en\/index.html?1795040278\"  scrolling=\"no\" noborders><\/iframe><div class=\"post-content sequence\">\n<p>Despite recent growth, businesses are no longer the leading source of patents in the country<sup>1<\/sup>. Representing 9 of the 15 leading organizations in terms of patents filed in 2000\u20132005, only three are on the list for 2013\u20132017, and only one in 2017. In a reverse of that trend, universities have gone from three on the 2000\u20132005 list to 11 for 2013\u20132017, and 16 out of the 17<sup>2<\/sup> leading organizations in 2017.<\/p>\n<\/div><a name=\"#dados2_en\"><\/a><iframe id=\"dados2_en\" style=\"overflow: hidden; width: 100%; height: calc(100vh - 200px)\" data-ratio_760=\"0.47\" data-ratio_1190=\"0.47\" class=\"resizable\" data-ratio=\"2.375\" src=\"https:\/\/revistapesquisa.fapesp.br\/wp-content\/revista_embeds\/dados2_en\/index.html?1642079936\"  scrolling=\"no\" noborders><\/iframe><div class=\"post-content sequence\">\n<p>Whirlpool and Petrobras, two companies that featured among the leaders in the 2013\u20132017 period, have dropped significantly since 2014, while Vale, having peaked with 32 patents in 2015, also fell in 2016\/17.
