{"id":291810,"date":"2019-07-15T16:41:52","date_gmt":"2019-07-15T19:41:52","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/revistapesquisa.fapesp.br\/?p=291810"},"modified":"2019-07-15T16:57:00","modified_gmt":"2019-07-15T19:57:00","slug":"scientific-articles-in-2017","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/revistapesquisa.fapesp.br\/en\/scientific-articles-in-2017\/","title":{"rendered":"Scientific articles in 2017"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Articles by authors based in Brazil and S\u00e3o Paulo<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Researchers living in Brazil published 55,051 scientific articles<sup>1<\/sup>, of which 22,856 were published by authors based in S\u00e3o Paulo, 42% of the total.<\/li>\n<li>Brazil placed 14<sup>th<\/sup> among all countries that provided data, the same position as 2016.<\/li>\n<li>Brazil is ranked first in Latin America; among the BRICS countries, it placed behind China, India, and Russia, and ahead of South Africa. If S\u00e3o Paulo were a country, it would be 23<sup>rd<\/sup> in the world and 2<sup>nd <\/sup>in Latin America, behind Brazil.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>In relation to GDP and population<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>The graph to the right shows the relationship between the number of articles published and GDP for countries with at least 5,000 articles published in 2017.<br \/>\nThe bottom-left area of the graph, where Brazil and the main emerging economies are located, is enlarged for detail.<\/li>\n<li>The circles represent the gross number of articles published by each country, led by the United States (493,000) and China (423,000).<\/li>\n<li>The global averages are PPP$<sup>2<\/sup>15,476 GDP per capita and 276 articles per million inhabitants (1Minhab).
