{"id":375500,"date":"2021-01-26T15:22:58","date_gmt":"2021-01-26T18:22:58","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/revistapesquisa.fapesp.br\/?p=375500"},"modified":"2021-01-26T15:23:28","modified_gmt":"2021-01-26T18:23:28","slug":"business-rd-spending-falls-sharply","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/revistapesquisa.fapesp.br\/en\/business-rd-spending-falls-sharply\/","title":{"rendered":"Business R&#038;D spending falls sharply"},"content":{"rendered":"<ul>\n<li>According to data from the latest innovation survey (PINTEC\/IBGE, 2017), spending on research and development (R&amp;D)<sup>1<\/sup> by businesses fell nationwide and in S\u00e3o Paulo compared to 2014, both in real terms and as a percentage of GDP.<\/li>\n<li>In 2017, Brazilian companies spent R$32.6 billion on R&amp;D, or 0.5% of national GDP. The same figures were R$41.2 billion<sup>2<\/sup> and 0.58% in 2014<\/li>\n<li>For companies based in S\u00e3o Paulo, the total was R$14.6 billion, equivalent to 0.69% of state GDP, in 2017. In 2014, R$19.9 billion<sup>2<\/sup> was spent in the state\u20140.87% of its GDP.<\/li>\n<li>The service sector grew between 2011 and 2017, both in Brazil (31%) and S\u00e3o Paulo (215%).
