The number of doctorates granted in the country that year was 20,066, representing a drop of 18% compared to the 24,422 awarded in 2019<\/li>\n<li>One of the objectives of Brazil\u2019s 2014\u20132024 National Education Plan, which establishes guidelines, goals, and strategies for educational policy in the period, is to gradually increase the number of people enrolling on graduate programs, with the aim of reaching 25,000 doctorates awarded per year<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div><div class='overflow-responsive-img' style='text-align:center'><picture data-tablet=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/04\/011_Dados_313-0-desktop-true.png\" data-tablet_size=\"1140x470\" alt=\"Doctoral Degrees Awarded in Brazil By Region\">\n    <source srcset=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/04\/011_Dados_313-0-desktop-true.png\" media=\"(min-width: 1920px)\" \/>\n    <source srcset=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/04\/011_Dados_313-0-desktop-true.png\" media=\"(min-width: 1140px)\" \/>\n    <img decoding=\"async\" class=\"responsive-img\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/04\/011_Dados_313-0-mobile.png\" \/>\n  <\/picture><\/div><div class=\"post-content sequence\">\n<ul>\n<li>The fall in the number of new doctorates occurred in all Brazilian regions. The North saw the biggest drop, at 23%, followed by the Northeast (20%), Southeast (19%), South (13%), and Midwest (12%)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<picture data-tablet=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/04\/011_Dados_313-1-desktop.png\" data-tablet_size=\"670x450\" alt=\"Doctoral Degrees Awarded in Brazil By Field\">\n    <source srcset=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/04\/011_Dados_313-1-desktop.png\" media=\"(min-width: 1920px)\" \/>\n    <source srcset=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/04\/011_Dados_313-1-desktop.png\" media=\"(min-width: 1140px)\" \/>\n    <img decoding=\"async\" class=\"responsive-img\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/04\/011_Dados_313-1-mobile.png\" \/>\n  <\/picture>\n<ul>\n<li>The decline occurred in all fields, but was greatest in the biological sciences (-29%) and smallest in applied social sciences (-10%).
