They analyzed 610 reports of seizure related to counterfeit drugs, described as such after visual and laboratory analyses had been conducted by criminal experts. They also analyzed 371 reports of counterfeit drugs with another active principle. The reports had been prepared in the period from 2007 to 2010. Most of the reports (80%) referred to counterfeit versions of medications for impotence and of anabolic steroids. Some of the medical drugs \u2013 even the rarely counterfeited ones, such as imatinib (Glivec), which destroys tumors \u2013contained no active ingredient. Half of the counterfeit drugs have been seized in the State of Paran\u00e1, 16% in the State of S\u00e3o Paulo and 6% in the State of Santa Catarina.
