The announcement was published in the <em>Di\u00e1rio Oficial do Estado de S\u00e3o Paulo<\/em> (Official gazette of the state of S\u00e3o Paulo) on August 17. Voorwald will fill the seat vacated by Vanderlan Bolzani, a professor at the Institute of Chemistry of S\u00e3o Paulo State University (UNESP) and president of the S\u00e3o Paulo State Academy of Sciences (ACIESP). After completing his bachelor\u2019s degree at UNESP (1979), Voorwald earned a master&#8217;s degree from the Technological Institute of Aeronautics (1983) and a PhD from the University of Campinas (1988), both in the field of fatigue in high-strength materials. He is currently a professor at UNESP, where he was dean from 2009 to 2010 and now leads a research group that studies fatigue and aeronautical materials.
