He is the 11<sup>th<\/sup> professor at the school to be granted the honor, approved by the collegiate board on April 26, which is awarded to retired professors who have made a notable contribution to the institution. Zago graduated in medicine from FMRP in 1970 and completed his master&#8217;s degree (1973) and doctorate (1975) at the same institution. From 2001 to 2015 he headed the Cell Therapy Center (CTC) in Ribeir\u00e3o Preto, one of the Research, Innovation, and Dissemination Centers (RIDCs) funded by FAPESP. He was president of the Brazilian National Council for Scientific and Technological Development (CNPq) from 2007 to 2010 and USP\u2019s dean of research (2010\u20132014) and then dean (2014\u20132017). In 2018, he was director of the S\u00e3o Paulo State Health Department.
