Menezes de Almeida was chosen from a list of three candidates provided by the foundation&#8217;s Board of Trustees. He is a professor at the School of Law of the University of S\u00e3o Paulo (USP), where he received his undergraduate and doctorate degrees. Since 2014 he has led the International Triangular Partnership for Higher Education (PITES), an agreement signed between USP and Jean Moulin University Lyon 3, Lumi\u00e8re University Lyon 2, and Jean Monnet University, all in France. The partnership allows Brazilian students to obtain a\u00a0<em>license en droit <\/em>degree, issued by the partner universities and valid across Europe. Menezes was Deputy Secretary of Science, Technology, and Economic Development for the State of S\u00e3o Paulo from 2003 to 2006, and an advisor to the FAPESP president from 2007 to 2016.
