{"id":497599,"date":"2024-01-26T09:53:36","date_gmt":"2024-01-26T12:53:36","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/revistapesquisa.fapesp.br\/?p=497599"},"modified":"2024-01-26T09:53:36","modified_gmt":"2024-01-26T12:53:36","slug":"method-distinguishes-chemical-identities-of-coffees","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/revistapesquisa.fapesp.br\/en\/method-distinguishes-chemical-identities-of-coffees\/","title":{"rendered":"Method distinguishes chemical identities of coffees"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Researchers from the University of Campinas (UNICAMP), Embrapa Rond\u00f4nia, and the Federal Technological University of Paran\u00e1 (UTFPR) have developed a technique that is 90% accurate at instantly determining the origin of Brazilian coffees of the canephora species (<em>Coffea canephora<\/em>) from the states where they are primarily grown (Esp\u00edrito Santo, Rond\u00f4nia, and Bahia) and distinguishing their botanical varieties (conilon and robusta) and the canephora coffee cultivars. Tested on 527 samples of canephora and arabica (<em>Coffea arabica<\/em>) with and without indicated origins, the method uses near-infrared spectroscopy and statistical methods to analyze data of chemical origin. The equipment emits electromagnetic radiation onto the sample under analysis and a detection system records the signal.
