The specialist in regional fish has worked at the Brazilian National Institute of Amazonian Research (INPA) in Manaus since 1981 and heads the National Institute of Science and Technology for Adaptations of Aquatic Biota in the Amazon (INCT-Adapta). The award includes a prize of R$200,000. Wanderley de Souza, a 73-year-old parasitologist from the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (UFRJ), and 77-year-old mechanical engineer and computer scientist Nivio Ziviani of the Federal University of Minas Gerais (UFMG) won the 5<sup>th<\/sup> edition of the CBMM Award in the science and technology categories, respectively. Each will receive R$500,000 in recognition of their scientific contributions in their fields. Computer scientist Virg\u00edlio Almeida, professor emeritus at UFMG and holder of the Oscar Sala chair at the Institute of Advanced Studies of the University of S\u00e3o Paulo (IEA-USP), will receive the 2023 Conrado Wessel Science Foundation Award, presented annually since 2003.
