At the same time, extreme weather events are occurring more frequently around the world, further increasing interest in the subject.<\/li>\n<li>The growing importance and interest in the topic can be measured by the rising number of scientific articles published on climate change worldwide. The graph to the right, based on Web of Science\/InCites data, shows that the number increased from 1,538 articles published in 2001 to no less than 41,421 papers in 2022. The growth is almost 27-fold in the period, compared to a 2.6-times increase for all articles<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div><div class='overflow-responsive-img' style='text-align:center'><picture data-tablet=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/05\/RPF-dados-2023-10-info1-desk-ING.jpg\" data-tablet_size=\"1140x540\" alt=\"\">\n    <source srcset=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/05\/RPF-dados-2023-10-info1-desk-ING.jpg\" media=\"(min-width: 1920px)\" \/>\n    <source srcset=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/05\/RPF-dados-2023-10-info1-desk-ING.jpg\" media=\"(min-width: 1140px)\" \/>\n    <img decoding=\"async\" class=\"responsive-img\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/05\/RPF-dados-2023-10-info1-mobile-ING.jpg\" \/>\n  <\/picture><\/div><div class=\"post-content sequence\">\n<ul>\n<li>A similar trend can be seen in Brazil, to an even greater magnitude than the global total. In 2001, 15 papers on the topic were published with at least one author linked to an institution in Brazil, rising to 1,250 in 2022, representing an increase of more than 80 times. In relative terms, Brazil&#8217;s proportion of the global total has grown in leaps and bounds: it remained below 1% in the initial years of the period, rising to just over 1.6% between 2010 and 2013 before surpassing 2% in 2016 and reaching just over 3% in recent years.<\/li>\n<li>Despite the downturn in Brazilian scientific output in 2022 as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic, growth was intense beforehand, although it had never reached a 3% share of the global total.
