The network provides high-speed data connections to the academic community in the state of São Paulo, connecting education and research institutions to others across Brazil and around the world. It took part in a joint transmission demonstration led by the California Institute of Technology (Caltech) that achieved a rate of 6.2 terabits per second (Tbps). Both institutions fed the network with the largest volume of data their computer infrastructure could handle. Using servers at São Paulo State University (UNESP), the University of São Paulo (USP), and Mackenzie Presbyterian University, REDNESP contributed 260 gigabits per second (Gbps), equivalent to 4% of the total data flow. The highest transmission rate achieved previously had been 80 Gbps. Funded by FAPESP, REDNESP also tested BackBone SP, which was launched in early 2023 and connects eight teaching and research institutions to international academic networks: USP, UNESP, Mackenzie, the University of Campinas (UNICAMP), the Technological Institute of Aeronautics (ITA), and the federal universities of ABC (UFABC), São Carlos (UFSCar), and São Paulo (UNIFESP) (Agência FAPESP, December 5).

[1651

785
post-514248","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-notes
["GET
