{"id":515386,"date":"2024-07-17T15:26:22","date_gmt":"2024-07-17T18:26:22","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/revistapesquisa.fapesp.br\/?p=515386"},"modified":"2024-07-17T15:26:22","modified_gmt":"2024-07-17T18:26:22","slug":"the-slow-resumption-of-phds","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/revistapesquisa.fapesp.br\/en\/the-slow-resumption-of-phds\/","title":{"rendered":"The slow resumption of PhDs"},"content":{"rendered":"<ul>\n<li>After a drop in the number of doctorates awarded per year, from 24,422 in 2019 to 20,066 in 2020 (-17.8%), the number rose again slightly in 2021, and then more strongly in 2022, when 22,296 PhDs were awarded<\/li>\n<li>While the figure is still 6.1% below 2019 (before the pandemic), different trends were observed in different fields of knowledge in the period<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<picture data-tablet=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/05\/RPF-dados-2024-01-info1-DESK-ING.png\" data-tablet_size=\"670x374\" alt=\"\">\n    <source srcset=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/05\/RPF-dados-2024-01-info1-DESK-ING.png\" media=\"(min-width: 1920px)\" \/>\n    <source srcset=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/05\/RPF-dados-2024-01-info1-DESK-ING.png\" media=\"(min-width: 1140px)\" \/>\n    <img decoding=\"async\" class=\"responsive-img\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/05\/RPF-dados-2024-01-info1-MOBILE-ING.png\" \/>\n  <\/picture>\n<ul>\n<li>The field of applied social sciences surpassed the 2019 value by approximately 4.4% (<em>see graph above<\/em>), as did multidisciplinary, although to a lesser extent<\/li>\n<li>The other fields have not yet reached 2019 levels, especially biological sciences, agricultural sciences, and exact &amp; earth sciences.
