Zago is a physician and professor emeritus at the University of S\u00e3o Paulo (USP), where he served as vice dean of research (2010\u20132014) and dean (2014\u20132017). He was president of the Brazilian National Council for Scientific and Technological Development (CNPq, 2007\u20132010) and director of the Brazilian Academy of Science (ABC). Carmino Antonio de Souza is a hematologist-oncologist and a professor at the School of Medical Sciences of the University of Campinas (UNICAMP).
