In 2023, almost 25% of patent applications by residents were filed by an HEI. As a point of comparison, in the USA, this figure is below 5%.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<picture data-tablet=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/03\/RPF-dados-2024-10-info1-ING-DESK.jpg\" data-tablet_size=\"670x560\" alt=\"\">\n    <source srcset=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/03\/RPF-dados-2024-10-info1-ING-DESK.jpg\" media=\"(min-width: 1920px)\" \/>\n    <source srcset=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/03\/RPF-dados-2024-10-info1-ING-DESK.jpg\" media=\"(min-width: 1140px)\" \/>\n    <img decoding=\"async\" class=\"responsive-img\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/03\/RPF-dados-2024-10-info1-ING-MOBILE.jpg\" \/>\n  <\/picture>\n<ul>\n<li>The national average hides the strong regional heterogeneity of this indicator. In 10 states, the participation of HEIs is lower than the average (24.7%). In those that exceed the average, there are eight where applications by HEIs account for more than half of the total filed by all residents, and in Para\u00edba, the proportion is greater than 90%.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div><div class='overflow-responsive-img' style='text-align:center'><picture data-tablet=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/03\/RPF-dados-2024-10-info2-ING-DESK.jpg\" data-tablet_size=\"1140x480\" alt=\"\">\n    <source srcset=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/03\/RPF-dados-2024-10-info2-ING-DESK.jpg\" media=\"(min-width: 1920px)\" \/>\n    <source srcset=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/03\/RPF-dados-2024-10-info2-ING-DESK.jpg\" media=\"(min-width: 1140px)\" \/>\n    <img decoding=\"async\" class=\"responsive-img\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/03\/RPF-dados-2024-10-info2-ING-MOBILE.jpg\" \/>\n  <\/picture><\/div><div class=\"post-content sequence\">\n<ul>\n<li>In S\u00e3o Paulo, despite the large number of invention patents filed by HEIs, their percentage of the total is only 9.6%, reflecting the greater presence of companies filing patents in the state.
