Un calentador, construido por el equipo del profesor Jorge Henrique Sales, del Departamento de Tecnolog\u00eda en Producci\u00f3n Mec\u00e1nica, del Centro Universitario de Itajub\u00e1, Minas Gerais, utiliza la luz solar para calentar el agua hasta los 70\u00ba C. El agua fr\u00eda pasa por un tubo que va hasta el calentador solar, y despu\u00e9s de calentarse, queda en un compartimiento t\u00e9rmico, revestido con lana de vidrio, desde donde ser\u00e1 distribuida. El tubo que transporta el agua pasa por el interior de latas de aluminio perforadas en las zonas espec\u00edficas en las que ocurre la refracci\u00f3n de la luz, esto es, donde los rayos solares inciden dos veces.
