En 1966, un dictamen del Consejo Federal de Educaci\u00f3n organiz\u00f3 el sistema de posgrado dividi\u00e9ndolo en dos categor\u00edas \u2013stricto sensu, que tiende prioritariamente a la formaci\u00f3n del investigador, y lato sensu, dirigido a la especializaci\u00f3n profesional\u2013 y estableciendo las categor\u00edas de la maestr\u00eda y del doctorado, sin que la primera sea obligatoriamente un requisito para la segunda. El marco legal, que propici\u00f3 el crecimiento ordenado del \u00a0posgrado brasile\u00f1o, qued\u00f3 conocido como Dictamen Sucupira, en alusi\u00f3n a su informante.
