El algod\u00f3n rojo repele plagas como el picudo, un problema del \u00a0cultivo del algod\u00f3n, porque esos insectos no reconocen el color rojo y rechazan el vegetal. De la estadounidense Texas Red, la nueva variedad hered\u00f3 el color, porque presenta baja productividad. Del IAC 87\/544, hered\u00f3 la resistencia a algunos tipos de nematodos, al hongo murcha de fusarium y a la enfermedad ramulosa, tambi\u00e9n provocada por hongos. As\u00ed, la siembra dispensa el uso pesado de agro-t\u00f3xicos. Las primeras investigaciones con el algod\u00f3n rojo comenzaron en 1991.
