Especialista en microbiolog\u00eda y pionero de la divulgaci\u00f3n cient\u00edfica en Brasil, Reis fue uno de los ideadores de la Sociedad Brasile\u00f1a para el Progreso de la Ciencia (SBPC) y de la FAPESP. \u201cLa ciencia es bonita y profundamente est\u00e9tica; por lo tanto debemos exhibirla a la sociedad\u201d, dec\u00eda Reis, cuyo trabajo de divulgador tuvo su in\u00edcio en el Instituto Biol\u00f3gico de S\u00e3o Paulo, en 1929.\u00a0 En 1947 Reis pas\u00f3 a colaborar con el grupo de peri\u00f3dicos hoy liderados por la Folha de S\u00e3o Paulo, para el cual escribir\u00eda hasta el final de su vida.
