Ten\u00eda 65 a\u00f1os y sufr\u00eda de c\u00e1ncer. Nacido en Pernambuco y radicado en Para\u00edba desde 1968, Ara\u00fajo era profesor de la Universidad Federal de Campina Grande. Fue director general de la Fundaci\u00f3n Parque Tecnol\u00f3gico de Para\u00edba (PaqTcPB) entre 1985 y 1993 y secretario de Planificaci\u00f3n de Campina Grande, entre 2002 y 2003.
