Dicha cooperaci\u00f3n tiene como objetivo estudios tendientes a perfeccionar el diagn\u00f3stico y el tratamiento de la anemia falciforme y otras enfermedades de la sangre. Belinda Sim\u00f5es, docente de la Facultad de Medicina de Ribeir\u00e3o Preto de la USP y una de las coordinadoras del consorcio, manifest\u00f3 a <em>Ag\u00eancia FAPESP<\/em> que la intenci\u00f3n es promover el intercambio de investigadores y facilitar la captaci\u00f3n de recursos para investigaci\u00f3n. La anemia falciforme es causada por una alteraci\u00f3n gen\u00e9tica y afecta a 50 mil brasile\u00f1os.
