El ingeniero de 65 a\u00f1os, vicerrector durante el mandato del actual rector, Marco Antonio Zago, es profesor titular de la Escuela Polit\u00e9cnica, y encabez\u00f3 la terna de candidatos a ocupar la rector\u00eda porque fue el m\u00e1s votado por el colegio electoral de la universidad, que sesion\u00f3 el 30 de octubre. Asumir\u00e1 el cargo el 25 de enero de 2018 y tendr\u00e1 un mandato de cuatro a\u00f1os.
