A diferencia del Old Faithful, cuyas erupciones presentan una regularidad diaria, el Steamboat es imprevisible. Su primera fase de actividad intermitente se registr\u00f3 en la d\u00e9cada de 1960 y una segunda durante los a\u00f1os 1980. Posteriormente, solo volvi\u00f3 a la actividad en 2018, cuando los investigadores instalaron una red de 50 sism\u00f3grafos port\u00e1tiles a su alrededor para registrar las ondas s\u00edsmicas generadas durante las erupciones.
