Todo el organismo de las personas felices funciona mejor que el de las infelices, de acuerdo con un estudio coordinado por Andrew Steptoe, de la University College de Londres, que sigui\u00f3 las emociones y la salud de 200 londinenses. Aqu\u00e9llos que eran m\u00e1s felices registraban \u00edndices menores de cortisol, una hormona ligada al \u00e9str\u00e9s y a enfermedades tales como la diabetes del tipo II y la hipertensi\u00f3n. Tambi\u00e9n respond\u00edan al estr\u00e9s con una cantidad menor de fibrin\u00f3geno, una prote\u00edna hallada en la sangre, que en altas concentraciones puede perjudicar al coraz\u00f3n.
