El edificio, situado en el centro de S\u00e3o Paulo, posee seis pisos, de los cuales tres son laboratorios para cultivos celulares, virolog\u00eda, histolog\u00eda y bioinform\u00e1tica, construidos e integrados con instrumental adquirido en gran parte mediante el apoyo de la FAPESP. Uno de los objetivos del nuevo instituto consiste en centralizar las investigaciones realizadas en casi todas las \u00e1reas cl\u00ednicas y quir\u00fargicas por m\u00e9dicos, docentes y estudiantes de posgrado en laboratorios distribuidos por los diversos departamentos del Hospital Central y de la Facultad de Ciencias M\u00e9dicas de la Santa Casa. \u201cLa Santa Casa cuenta con un plantel de investigadores que se desempe\u00f1an desperdigados por la instituci\u00f3n.
