Simone Guimar\u00e3es y Paulo S\u00e1vio Lopes desarrollan el Programa de Identificaci\u00f3n Gen\u00f3mica en Porcinos (Pigs) y llegar\u00edan, antes de 2001, a hallar los genes responsables por estas cualidades, para ayudar a acelerar el mejoramiento gen\u00e9tico y la productividad. Los investigadores cruzaron los dos linajes comerciales: los porcinos de piel blanca, poca grasa y crecimiento r\u00e1pido, con las razas nativas, los cerdos pintados, que crecen lentamente, comen mucho y acumulan grasas.
