Casi cuando expiraba el tiempo de uso para el cual hab\u00eda sido planeado, el laboratorio cumpli\u00f3, el a\u00f1o pasado, con su misi\u00f3n principal: intentar vislumbrar una se\u00f1al de la existencia del bos\u00f3n de Higg, una part\u00edcula fundamental. La construcci\u00f3n del laboratorio que suceder\u00e1 al LEP, el <em>Large Hadron Collider<\/em> (LHC), se iniciar\u00e1 durante este semestre, pero solo estar\u00e1 finalizada en 2005. El presidente del Cern, Lucia\u00f1o Maiani, resumi\u00f3 los cambios con humor: \u201cEl rey est\u00e1 muerto.
