Tras los atentados del 11 de septiembre, los investigadores redujeron los viajes en avi\u00f3n por temor a nuevos ataques. Como resultado de ello, dos de los m\u00e1s importantes encuentros m\u00e9dicos del a\u00f1o, realizados en California en noviembre \u2013 uno de la Asociaci\u00f3n Americana del Coraz\u00f3n y otro de la Academia Americana de Reumatolog\u00eda \u2013 tuvieron una asistencia inferior a la esperada. El encuentro sobre enfermedades card\u00edacas, por ejemplo, deber\u00eda haber recibido a 30 mil profesionales, pero solamente 23,5 mil se dispusieron a subirse a un avi\u00f3n para estar presentes durante los cuatro d\u00edas que dur\u00f3 el evento.
