BRICS establish a fund

In early January 2016 in Beijing, the BRICS countries (Brazil, Russia India, China, and South Africa) signed a R$24 million agreement to establish a fund to finance joint scientific projects. Representatives of the Brazilian government reported that Brazil will have to contribute R$1.2 million, R$1 million of which would be used for cybernetic security and cyberdefense projects, and R$200,000 for preventing and monitoring natural disasters. The first multilateral call is scheduled to be launched in April 2016, and the National Council for Scientific and Technological Development (CNPq) will participate.
