Electrical outlets, sharp objects, medicines, and poisons all present common risks to people, but especially to children aged under 10. A multidisciplinary team of health and education professionals from the Federal University of São Paulo (UNIFESP), Franciscana University, and other institutions have now developed an app that raises awareness of how to respond in emergency situations. The app, called SOS Kids, was designed to be accessible and easy to navigate, so that it can be used by educators, caregivers, and parents themselves. Conceptual maps on the app give a step-by-step guide on what to do in the event of drowning, convulsions, burns, poisoning, choking, a fall, cardiac arrest, injuries, electric shock, and accidents involving animals, as well as when to immediately seek professional help. The app is available on Google Play for Android phones (Acta Paulista de Enfermagem, October 4).
