The Institute of Advanced Studies of the University of São Paulo (IEA-USP) has a new senior management team. Physician and pathologist Paulo Saldiva, professor at the USP School of Medicine, was appointed director of the Institute, and engineer Guilherme Ary Plonski, professor at the USP School of Economics, Business Administration and Accounting, was named deputy director. In the next four years, their plans include opening an Advanced Leadership Training School for anyone interested in public policy issues, performing city planning and quality of life studies, and tightening relations between USP and the legislative branch of the government. Established in 1986 as an interdisciplinary forum, the IEA brings together researchers from a variety of fields and stimulates discussions, which among other objectives, helps formulate public policies.
