Chemist Ronaldo Aloise Pilli has been named the new vice president of FAPESP, appointed by official decree by the São Paulo state governor on October 11. Pilli studied his undergraduate degree and PhD at the University of Campinas (UNICAMP) before becoming a professor at the university’s Institute of Chemistry. He studies the synthesis and biological activity of drugs, pheromones, and other natural products. His vast experience includes stints as director of the UNICAMP Institute of Chemistry, dean of research at the university, and a member of FAPESP’s Board of Trustees. Over the last 10 years, he has also dedicated himself to scientific dissemination. As vice president of FAPESP, Pilli replaces physician Eduardo Moacyr Krieger, professor emeritus at the University of São Paulo (USP).
