The images depict the inside of passion fruit flower buds (Passiflora edulis) made using Optical Projection Tomography (OPT), a technique that employs mathematical methods to reconstruct, in three dimensions, an image of a subject. The flower is seen from the side (A), the top (B) and the inside (C and D) and shows the various densities of the bud tissues. The images were produced by Alexandra Verwij who is studying the floral development and molecular biology of the passion fruit, under the advisorship of Marcelo Carnier Dornelas at the Institute of Biology at the University of Campinas (IB-Unicamp).
