ReproductionRonaldo Aloise Pilli, 63, a professor at the Institute of Chemistry of the University of Campinas (IQ-UNICAMP) and associate dean of research at the institution from 2009 to 2013, has been appointed to the FAPESP Board of Trustees by the governor of São Paulo. The position has a term of six years. The new board member received the most votes from representatives of higher education and research institutions in São Paulo State in an election held in June. His name was top of a three-name list submitted to the governor by the FAPESP Board of Trustees, which also included physicians and researchers Arnaldo Lopes Colombo, from the Federal University of São Paulo (UNIFESP), and Dimas Tadeu Covas, director of the Butantan Institute. A specialist in organic chemistry with an emphasis on the synthesis of pharmaceuticals and natural products, Pilli has applied for 14 patents. He has been a professor at the Institute of Chemistry since 2000.
